The 7 Days Shira Route is the preferred variation of this scenic western approach. By adding an extra day for acclimatization at Karanga Camp, we significantly improve your body's ability to adapt to the altitude, making the summit night safer and more enjoyable. Like the 6-day version, this route begins high at Londorossi Gate (3,500m) and crosses the spectacular Shira Plateau, but the slower pace in the middle section is the key to its high success rate.
You’ll experience the diverse landscapes of Kilimanjaro: from the heath and moorland of the plateau to the semi-desert of Lava Tower, the scramble up the Barranco Wall, and the arctic summit zone. The "climb high, sleep low" principle is perfectly executed on this itinerary.
Your days on Kilimanjaro are active and varied. Expect 4 to 7 hours of trekking daily (longer on summit day). The terrain shifts from open heath to alpine desert and scree. Highlights include the non-technical scramble up the Barranco Wall and the challenging Summit Night.
We provide all ground transportation using well-maintained, private vehicles:
We believe comfort is key to a successful summit. Our mountain accommodation and dining are designed to keep you rested and energized.
This 7-day variation offers an extra day for acclimatization at Karanga Camp (Day 5), which significantly increases your summit success rate compared to the 6-day option. It breaks the long hike from Barranco to Barafu into two manageable days, allowing for better rest and recovery before the summit push.
