Overview – 7 Days Rongai Route

The Rongai Route is Kilimanjaro’s northern approach, offering a tranquil and scenic path ideal for acclimatization. Over 7 days, climbers gradually ascend through lush forests, moorlands, and alpine deserts, maximizing the chances of reaching Uhuru Peak. Unlike other routes, Rongai is less crowded and provides a more private and peaceful climbing experience. This route is perfect for first-time climbers or anyone prioritizing safe acclimatization and beautiful natural surroundings.

Itinerary – 7 Days Rongai Route

Day 1: Moshi – Rongai Gate – Simba Camp

Drive from Moshi to Rongai Gate for registration, then begin the trek through farmland and forest. Overnight at Simba Camp (2,200m).

Day 2: Simba Camp – Second Cave Camp

Climb steadily through the rainforest into the moorland. Enjoy panoramic views of Kilimanjaro’s peaks. Overnight at Second Cave Camp (3,400m).

Day 3: Second Cave Camp – Kikelewa Camp

Ascend gradually through moorlands, acclimatizing to altitude. Take in scenic landscapes and unique flora. Overnight at Kikelewa Camp (3,600m).

Day 4: Kikelewa Camp – Mawenzi Tarn Camp

Continue ascent across alpine desert and rock formations. This day focuses on acclimatization, preparing climbers for summit day. Overnight at Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,300m).

Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn Camp – Kibo Hut

Descend briefly and then approach Kibo Hut (4,700m). Rest and enjoy the breathtaking alpine views. Prepare for the summit night.

Day 6: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut

Start the final ascent around midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise, then descend to Horombo Hut for rest (3,700m).

Day 7: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Moshi

Complete the descent to Marangu Gate, receive your summit certificate, and transfer back to Moshi. Celebrate your achievement!
